Intelligentsia's flagship espresso since 1995: syrupy and bright with cherry, cola and orange, roasted to order in Chicago.
Black Cat Classic is Intelligentsia's original espresso blend and the lightest of its Black Cat espressos, currently a semi-washed Brazil from Carmo de Minas with a washed Colombia from Cauca. The roaster describes it as syrupy sweet with vivid fruit acidity (cherry, cola, orange) and recommends a 1:2.5 ratio. Fans love it as a bright, sweet shot; the most common complaint on Reddit is sourness when it is not dialed in or not fresh.

Flavor profile
In the roaster’s words
“Cherry, Cola, Orange. Syrupy sweet, with vivid fruit acidity.”
How it scored
Cup score out of 10, weighted across five factors.
Sweet, fruit-forward espresso that fans call a favorite, but Reddit threads repeatedly report sour shots, so it rewards careful dialing in.
Intelligentsia says it always roasts to order and ships the next business day, and it publishes harvest dates and drying methods.
About $0.77 per 15 g cup at the $17.50 list price, good value for a roasted-to-order specialty espresso.
Direct Trade sourcing with regions, elevation, process and harvest window disclosed, though no prices paid or individual farms are listed.
Widely used in cafés and homes, but sentiment is split between 'my favorite' and 'tasted like lemons'.

FAQ
Intelligentsia calls it the lightest of its Black Cat espressos and labels its roast 'Comforting'; its FAQ says most of its espressos and blends are medium roasts. The Amazon listing calls it a light roast.
Intelligentsia recommends a finished shot weighing 2.5 times the dose, for example 18 g of coffee yielding 45 g of espresso.
It is a bright, fruit-forward blend, and sour shots usually mean under-extraction or stale beans. Grind finer, try the longer 1:2.5 ratio, and buy fresh from the roaster when possible.
