How it scored
Gear score out of 10, weighted across five factors.
CoffeeGeek rates performance 7.5/10, on par with sub-$300 grinders from espresso through V60, but calls it 'a clumpy, clumpy grinder for espresso'; Homegrounds found the coarse end too limited.
Stainless housing and magnetic accessories, but CoffeeGeek notes an AC motor that sounds strained, a cheap-looking LCD and only a 1-year warranty.
Programmable 0.2-second timer, cups/shots modes, portafilter cradles and repeatable settings make it very approachable for beginners.
At $199.95 it packs more features than rivals; CoffeeGeek scored value 10/10 and Homegrounds calls it excellent value.
A long-running best seller, yet CoffeeGeek notes the few YouTube coffee influencers who cover it generally pan it, and owner chatter centers on clumping.

“This is a clumpy, clumpy grinder for espresso. It also retains a lot of grinds.”
“Breville Smart Grinder Pro is a great fit for any beginner to intermediate coffee enthusiast. It’s enjoyable to use, looks nice on the counter, and has the ability to grind for most brewing methods.”
“It doesn’t really grind fine enough for Turkish coffee or as coarse as I prefer for cold brew. Even when making French press coffee, I generally used the coarsest setting.”

FAQ
It grinds fine enough and Homegrounds found espresso grind quality good for its price, pairing well with mid-range machines. CoffeeGeek found the output clumpy and retention high, so a WDT tool and a purge help.
You set grind time in 0.2-second increments and choose a number of cups or shots; the LCD shows the setting, time and dose so you can repeat it.
Breville says the 60 settings run from espresso to French press, but Homegrounds generally used the coarsest setting for French press and found it not coarse enough for cold brew.
It includes a small cradle for 50–54 mm and a large cradle for 58 mm portafilters, plus an airtight grinds container.
