America's Test Kitchen's top handheld frother: an $11 AA-powered wand that makes rich hot and cold foam and rinses clean in seconds.
The Milk Boss is Zulay Kitchen's original battery-powered handheld frother: a 13,000 RPM motor spinning a stainless steel whisk in a nylon body, sold with a holster stand. America's Test Kitchen named it its handheld winner for quality hot and cold foam and smooth hot chocolate. You heat milk separately, and it runs on two AA batteries that are not included.

How it scored
Gear score out of 10, weighted across five factors.
ATK found it made quality hot foam and the richest cold foam of the handhelds tested, though cold foam took longer than Zulay's instructions suggest and milk must be heated separately.
Simple nylon body and stainless whisk running on AA batteries; Zulay backs it with a limited lifetime warranty.
One button, a comfortable grip and a wand that ATK says took little effort to rinse clean; the stand keeps it on the counter.
At $10.99 on sale it costs a fraction of countertop frothers like the $129 Aeroccino 4.
America's Test Kitchen's handheld winner and a long-running budget favorite.

“Our favorite handheld model, the Zulay Kitchen Milk Boss Electric Milk Frother, efficiently produced quality hot and cold foams and mixed smooth hot chocolate without leaving residue—all while being easy to operate and clean.”
“As with all the handheld models, we had to operate it for longer than the manufacturer instructions recommended when making cold foam, but once we did, it created the richest cold foam of the handheld bunch.”

FAQ
No. It is a handheld whisk, so you heat milk in the microwave or on the stove first; ATK notes you need to do that step yourself, unlike countertop frothers.
Yes. ATK found it made the richest cold foam of the handheld models, though it needed to run longer than the manufacturer's recommended time.
Two AA batteries, which Zulay says are not included with this model.
Rinse the stainless whisk under running water and pulse it a few times, then dry it; don't submerge the handle.
